STERNBERGIA CANDIDA

Unlike most of this family  the fabled white  Sternbergia canidida flowers in the New Year. The white cup shaped flowers appear with the slender grey leaves. Scarce. Best grown under cover where it can get the dry summer it requires.

STERNBERGIA LUTEA

The Biblical ‘Lily of the Field’ for sharply drained soil in full sun. This is the easiest of the genus to grow, with large, bright yellow crocus-like flowers. They come from the Mediterranean area and require a dry summer. We grow them under a south facing wall They are in fact relatives of the daffodils

STERNBERGIA LUTEA ANGUSTIFOLIA

A free-flowering form of Stenbergia lutea with narrow, deep green foliage and similar bright yellow crocus-shaped flowers. For a dry position in full sun, or as it grows here, round the base of our large chestnut where it flowers in November!
