LILIUM

Lilies are among the most beautiful summer flowering bulbs and the most variable. Beautiful spikes of brightly coloured flowers on tall stems.Many of them have a beautiful scent. Best in some shade.Martagon lilies have slender stems with whorls of leaves topped by up to thirty purple of white flowers. They are best in part shade with deciduous shrubs. Regale has up to 10 white trumpet flowers that are strongly scented.Flowering time in June & July and the plants can grow as tall as 1.6m (5 feet).The bulbs are planeted either in late autumn or in early spring. Plant 8" deep and 12" apart.
The well known Madonna Lily - lilium candidum - is seen in many Renaissance paintings. It has a spike of up to 30 pure white trumpet flowers. It is semi evergreen and the bulbs should be planted just below the soil in a very sunny position. It is planted in late summer when it is just dormant. Height: 5’

Tall stems with whorls of leaves topped by up to thirty purple Turk’s Cap flowers, which are heavily spotted. A magnificent and easy lily for any soil in full sun or light shade. Suitable for naturalising in grass. We sell mature bulbs but they often take a couple of years to settle.
